Designed by noted and colorful architect A.W. Tillinghast, Brackenridge Park opened in 1916 and was the first 18-hole “public” golf course in Texas. Old Brack was an immediate hit and hosted the Texas Open professional golf tournament most years from 1922 – 1959. All the greats won the Texas Open through the years at Old Brack, including Walter Hagen, Byron Nelson, and Sam Snead. In addition to the Texas Open, Brackenridge Park played host to the Texas State Junior Championships where Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite won. Considered a favorite in San Antonio by the Golf Channel’s Matt Ginella, Old Brack is a timeless classic currently ranked in Golf Digest’s 2022 Best Golf Courses You Can Play in Texas.
